查尔斯·狄更斯的《圣诞颂歌》里,有这样的句子出现:

-- He ventured to raise his eyes again, and found his supernatural visitor confronting him in an erect attitude, with its chain wound over and about its arm.

-- The cur-tains of his bed were drawn aside; and Scrooge, starting up into a half-recumbent attitude, found himself face to face with the unearthly visitor who drew them: as close to it as I am now to you, and I am standing in the spirit at your el-bow.

汉斯·克里斯蒂安·安徒生的《安徒生童话》里,有这样的句子出现:
