Chatswood Public School- 学校概况
- 院校简介
Chatswood Public School was opened in 1883 in a one-room weatherboard building on two areas of bush what is now 17 Findlay Ave Roseville.
It was opened after a successful application in February 1882 from five residents of the district now known as Chatswood to the Minister for Education. The families were worried that their children were not being adequately educated and were to far from other educational institutions.
The school opened on Monday 9 July 1883 as a Public School with an enrolment of 34 pupils. Miss Agnes Burt was the first teacher.
Reports of the school were that it was drafty and dilapidated, and the grounds snake infested.
In 2011 Chatswood Public School is celebrating more than 128 years of educating the children of the Chatswood community. Our school is, as it has always been, a place where children achieve ‘Excellence in a Caring and Enriching Environment’.
Our school first opened on the 9th July 1883 with 34 students. Miss Agnes Burt was the first teacher. As the school grew the decision was made to move it closer to the railway station. It was reopened in 1895 on its current site. Alexander Noble was appointed Principal. By 1900 the school population had grown to 581 and was now called a Superior Public School. The school reached it peak enrolment of 2 438 students in 1933. Our current enrolment is 708 students.
Of course the children of today have far more opportunities than the original 38 students who started over 128 years ago. Now the school has:
modern technologies
smaller classes
better resources
an outstanding instrument and choral program incorporating orchestra, concert band, training band, chamber strings ensemble, string groups, four school choirs, recorder ensemble in school music tutor program and school music camp
programs for students with disabilities including a Multicategorical class
languages other than English program teaching both Mandarin and Korean
English as a second language program
student welfare programs
global citizenship program
chess, dance, drama, environment, robotics and science clubs
filmmaking, debating and public speaking competitions
an extension program with Chatswood High for our students to access the high school resources and facilities
a specialist visual arts and PE teacher, and
Opportunity Classes (OC).
Chatswood Public School has continued to excel in its learning and some might say is still a Superior Public School as it was once known.
